A Lamp Unto Thy Feet

The Silence of God and the Power of Prayers

Exodus 5&6

God will not usually step in unless we ask him to do so. He sees us, he knows what we need,  yet, he needs our permission to step in.

How do we give God the permission? through prayers of course. God gave man dominion over the eqarth (Genesis 1:26), hence we are able to do whatever we want, good or bad.

However, it does not mean that God doesn’t have the power to stop things or turn them around. He does step in sometimes; he finds a suitable human, and uses them to accomplish his will. But when we need God, we must invite him. We have been given a means of inviting God into our matters, and this means, is prayers. This is why Christ said WHEN you pray not IF you pray, (Matthew 6:5-8), because he knew that prayer is something that we must do. It is not optional.

When we don’t pray, we are indirectly telling God that we can handle everything and that he should never interfere.

In Exodus 5 and 6, this is evident when the people suffered harder labour after Moses and Aaron approached Pharaoh to let the people go. God already had plans to show his might when Pharaoh hardened his heart, yet he began acting on this promise only after Moses prayed to him in Exodus chapter 5: 22 -23.

God knows what we need but until we ask him he will not give. Matthew 7:7, “Ask and you shall be given”  Numbers 4:28 “As truly as I live, as I hear you spoken in my ears so will I do to you”

There is a reason we are told in the book of John 14:13 by Christ, that “whatsoever we ask the father in Christ’s name he shall give to us. This is emphasising the power and place of prayer.

God has the power to answer, but we must tell him that we need him to answer. This is what praying is for.

Now, the big questions are: how is your prayer life? How are you praying? Are you asking or not? You need to be very specific when you pray because as he hears you speak to his ears so he shall do for you. Most importantly, make prayer a lifestyle.

Pray without stopping because God is always willing to answer and give us what is good for us at his own good time (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
