A Lamp Unto Thy Feet

It is Not About the Absence of Fire

Reading Isaiah 43:1-3 reminded me that the life of a Christian is not about achieving perfection or living a life free from trials and challenges that everyone faces. Unfortunately, that’s not the reality. Instead, what matters most is ‘who’ is with you during those struggles, and ‘how’ we come out of them.

Even our Lord Jesus Christ, God Himself, did not exempt Himself from troubles, even though He had the power to do so. Rather, He faced many of the hardships and trials of life. Shortly before His earthly ministry began, the devil tempted Him, but God helped Him, and He overcame Satan. The Bible tells us that “the angels came and ministered to Him” (Matthew 4:11).

In the Book of Daniel 3:27, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego literally went through fire, and the Bible states that “their hair was not singed, their clothes were not burned, and there was no smell of smoke on them.” And guess who was with them in the burning furnace? The fourth man in the fire, who looked like an angel (Daniel 3:25).

Joseph was destined to save his people, but he faced many challenges along the way, including moments of great adversity. He was sold into slavery and later falsely accused, which led to his imprisonment. Yet throughout these trials, one constant remained: the LORD was with Joseph (Genesis 39:21).

David was anointed as the king of Israel, but this came with significant challenges. King Saul, aware that David posed a threat to his throne, sought to eliminate him, leading to deep struggles and dangers. However, the LORD was with David, protecting him and guiding him toward the promised throne.

We could list many people who have gone through deep waters and fire but emerged unscathed. Can you recall a time when you thought everything was over? How did you make it to where you are today? What special strength helped you get through those challenges? Was it not the LORD who delivered you?

Why are you feeling anxious during this challenging time? As a Christian devoted to God, it’s not a matter of whether you will face trials; rather, it’s about WHO is with you and HIS ability to deliver you from those trials. It’s also about HOW you emerge from the fire. Remember Daniel 3:27: “Their hair was not singed, their clothes were not burned, and there was no smell of smoke on them.” Praise God!

This is God’s promise to you, and He never goes back on His word. Stand still, and know that He is your God!

You will not drown, you will not be burned! You are being sharpened, you are being refined, and you will shine! Let not your faith waver!
