A Lamp Unto Thy Feet

Sometimes You Just Have to Leave (Genesis 12:1-9)

Have you ever wondered why God commanded Abraham to leave his country, his kindred, and his father’s house? What might be preventing God from blessing Abraham in his homeland?

While I don’t have all the answers, I do want to share a message inspired by the experiences of both Abraham and Joseph, who left his family for Egypt, albeit due to his brothers’ betrayal.

What stands out about the departures of these individuals is the blessings that followed. Abraham was blessed and became the father of many nations, while Joseph ultimately saved his family from a famine that could have claimed their lives.

Sometimes, all you need to do is MOVE.

However, it’s essential that your move aligns with God’s plan for your life. This is where having a deep relationship with God becomes crucial. The journey might be challenging—Abraham faced famine (Genesis 12:10), and Joseph was wrongly accused and imprisoned. Yet, in the end, those struggles may be worth it.

Moving doesn’t always refer to changing your physical location. It can also mean stepping out of your comfort zone and leaving behind people or situations that limit you.

Understand that sometimes, you simply have to MOVE to secure a better future. When you do decide to move, ensure that you detach from whatever you’re meant to leave behind. For example, Abraham took his nephew, Lot, with him, and it wasn’t until they separated that God’s promises to Abraham were fully realized.

Most importantly, be attentive to when it’s time to move away from a place, situation, or person. Your breakthrough may depend on that decision.
