A Lamp Unto Thy Feet

CLOSE BUT NOT CHOSEN (1Samuel 1 12-17, 18-36)

The son’s of Eli were close to the Lord, they served in the temple, yet they were rejected by God. Why? Because they took the Lord fore granted.

The message of today is about the dangers of having something but not actually having it because of our attitude towards what we have.

Sometimes we get so comfortable in our position that we neglect our duties because we feel like “we have it”, it is ours’ ‘it cannot be taken from us’

Let the lives of the sons of Eli remind us today that having something is not a guarantee of keeping it. If we are tested and found unworthy, then we will certainly lose what we have.

Samuel wasn’t even born yet when the sons of Eli started serving in the house of God, but guess what? God solved two problems at a time when he saw how badly behaved these men were.

1. He gave Hannah a child

2. He gave a replacement for the badly behaved men.

This reminds us of the scriptures in Luke 19:40-44 , that says that even if we remain silent, that God, would raise stones to praise him.

The work must go on, with or without us.

What we are good at doing, someone else can do it even better .

Let us therefore be deliberate and take every tasks and responsibilities seriously, because every good work we do is to the glory of God.

It is hard to be close but not chosen.
